Fecal occult blood refers to the presence of microscopic quantities of blood in the stool that cannot be seen with the naked eye. The blood can come from anywhere in the digestive tract, including the mouth, stomach, intestines, vital organs, rectum or many other sources.

Done at home in a minute, the fecal occult blood test is a rapid, simple, pre-symptomatic, non-invasive way to determine if invisible trace amounts of blood are present in the digestive tract.

A positive test result, instantly visible as a color change to blue, may indicate the pre -symptomatic stages of the listed, diseases and many others. Based on the results a visit to your veterinarian may be recommended.

HOW THE TEST WORKS

We have made doing and interpreting the test very easy. These instructions are repeated in the kit you receive.

Please Note:

Your dog should not eat any raw meat products for 24 hours before taking the test. Feed the dog any dry commercial dog food for that period.

You will need a sample of the dog’s feces that are not more than 24 hours old. If you have to pick up or handle feces use a piece of plastic wrap, but testing is usually done by simply inserting the swab into the feces where it lies.

Remove the cotton swab from the cello bag and moisten the cotton tip with a couple of drops of water and plunge it into the feces to be tested. Twist the swab several times while inserted in the fecal material until the cotton tip is covered with fecal matter.

Remove the cap from the tube by pulling straight up from the test file, and when removed you will see a small plastic ampoule attached to it, Do not disturb this yet.

Break off about half the applicator stick from the swab which will allow room for it to sink to the bottom of the long tube which you now drop in into.

Replace the cap and the attached ampoule of clear fluid.

By squeezing your thumb and forefinger on the long tube, break the lower brown colored vial releasing the amber color fluid.

Ensure swab you dropped in is at the bottom of the tube and allow it to become soaked by the amber fluid for about 10 seconds.

Crush the top portion of the long cylinder tube to break the ampoule attached to the cap to release the clear colored activator fluid so it can mix with the amber fluid.

Gently shake once or twice if needed.

blue color indicates a positive test for occult blood.

That blue color means you have a positive test result and is a possible presymptomatic warning of a problem. To confirm this result, you will need to repeat the test in two days. A second blue color positive result means it is advisable to have a veterinarian examine your dog.

If your original result is negative, that is there is no color change to blue in the fluid, then your dog should be retested monthly.
